Video: Catching Up In The 112 Precinct

Commanding Officer gives clearer picture of crime numbers.

Deputy Inspector Christopher Tamola, commanding officer of the 112 Precinct, joined community residents at the monthly precinct community council meeting Wednesday night to help break down the community's most recent crime numbers.

The news, according to Tamola, has mostly been good. After arrests made in connection with a January mugging spree, most crime has seen a downward trend in the area, with the exception of grand larceny.

Tamola said that the best way to avoid having property stolen — especially from inside parked cars — is not to display valuables at all. He advised residents who do keep property in cars to make sure that it is hidden from view.

One particular kind of larceny, the theft of airbags from automobiles, that has been popping up in the precinct recently was largely diffused, Tamola said, by a major arrest made in the neighboring 110 Precinct of a career thief with over 40 prior arrests.
