Two Women Found Dead in Forest Hills Apartment

Sisters were found by super responding to water leak complaint.

A building superintendent found two elderly women dead in an apartment in Forest Hills Wednesday morning, according to police.

At around 10:50 a.m. police responded to a call at an apartment building on 108th Street. They arrived and found the building super, who had entered an apartment after complaints of a water leak.

Upon entering the apartment, the super found Leah Roth, 88 with her sister Ilene, 79. Both were unconscious. Neither of the women were responsive and EMT's were called. The women were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said there were no signs of forced entry in the apartment and no signs of trauma.

The Medical Examiner will determine their causes of death.

I was a friend of both Leah and Ilene, and I am shocked and saddened to read about their passings. If anyone has any more info, I would really appreciate it. I have known them for almost 20 years, Thanks, Elena

She was my 5th grade teacher at P.S. 174 during the 1980s. She was very unique and she introduced her sister to the class on a few occasions. I knew they were very close and this story is very sad to hear. Rest in peace Ms. Roth!

My mother found Leah her first job in advertising, and I met both Leah and Ilene when I was 12. That was 44 years ago. They lived in the same apartment way back then. After many years, my family and I looked for a place to live near to Manhattan. Leah and Ilene really sold us Forest Hills, and that is why we live here now, all these years later. I am very sad to hear of their passing and wonder what actually happened. Nina
