As 2013 winds down, Patch is providing run-downs of the top stories of the year. Today, we're recapping some of the top crime stories from the past 12 months.

1. Forest Hills' 'cannibal cop' Gilbert Valle was found guilty of planning to kidnap, torture and eat women.

2. A Jamaica man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the fatal 2010 beating of a Rosedale man outside of a Forest Hills club.

3. A Forest Hills man who teaches at a Flushing school pleaded guilty to statutory rape after having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

4. The FBI was seeking a man with ties to Forest Hills for his alleged involvement in a heroin trafficking ring known as the Flock Organization.

5. A Forest Hills man was arrested on sex trafficking charges for allegedly having sex with two underage girls and forcing them to work as prostitutes.
