Suspect Found Guilty Of Rape In Forest Park

Grabbed victim from behind and forced her into wooded area.

A Brooklyn man is facing up to 25 years in prison after his recent conviction related to an alleged 2009 rape of a woman in Forest Park.

According to trial testimony, Carl Wallace grabbed his victim from behind in the vicinity of Park Lane South and 91st Street at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2009. He then wrapped his arms around her and dragged her behind some trees in Forest Park, where he raped her while threatening to stab her if she made any noise.

The assailant then removed about $30 in cash, an iPod and some bank cards from the victim’s purse.

Reportedly, the victim went to a local hospital, where a rape kit was prepared.

On Oct. 28, 2009, Wallace was arrested by the NYPD Special Victims Unit after his DNA matched a sample he was required to submit to the state DNA databank following a 2003 attempted burglary conviction.

Last month, Wallace was found guilty of first-degree rape, third-degree robbery and second-degree unlawful imprisonment.

Wallace, who is now 30, reportedly has nine prior arrests. He is suspected in other sexual attacks in the Forest Park area.

His sentencing is scheduled for July 14 in front of Queens Supreme Justice Richard Buchter.

In announcing the conviction, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown promoted the DNA database.

“The fact that the defendant in this case was required to submit a sample to the DNA databank following a 2003 attempted burglary conviction and thus was identified as the perpetrator in this case once again underscores its effectiveness as a tool of law enforcement,” he stated.
