Second Fire in Less Than a Year For Historic Gardens Building

Inn Apartments suffered similar incident last March.

For the second time in less than a year, firefighters responded to a blaze in a historic Continental Avenue building.

The fire, which was in a fourth-floor apartment, was called in at 1:12 p.m. Monday. Firefighters were on the scene in three minutes, working to put out the fire and prevent any unnecessary damage to the historic “Inn Apartments” at 20 Continental Ave.

There were 12 units, made up of 60 firefighters and emergency medical technicians on the scene to attend to the all-hands incident.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

Fire marshals are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Afterward, crews on Continental Avenue worked to recharge fire extinguishers used to put down the fire, which was declared “under control” at 1:40 p.m.

Last March, the same building suffered a similar fire, forcing local fire crews to run hoses up the building’s stairs.
