A local teen plummeted from the roof of the apartments at 1 Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills Gardens Friday evening, authorities said.

The 18-year-old man, whose name was not  immediately released by officials, was transported to Jamaica Hospital shortly before 7 p.m. and was listed in critical condition, according to cops.

Almost a dozen police cars and ambulances responded to the scene, from both the 112 and 109 precincts, witnesses said.

Some witnesses in the area said the teen may have been playing with friends on the roof, but a police source said it appears as though he jumped.

One Forest Hills resident said she heard an EMT telling the teen to "hang in there, hang in there,” as he was being put in an ambulance.

“I saw them carry him to the ambulance, it was a young guy,” said Helena Conti, who was walking in the neighborhood at the time. “He was still alive, he was still breathing, supposedly, at the time [the ambulance left].”

The private apartment complex located at 1 Ascan Avenue is directly across the street from a set of raised LIRR tracks that separate Forest Hills Gardens from Austin Street. The building is six stories high with access to a private garden away from the street, where witnesses said the teen fell.
