Jamaica man sentenced for incident during which he beat and kicked Rosedale man, who later died of a heart attack.

A 31-year-old Queens man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a brutal beating that led to another man’s death at a Forest Hills club in 2010, the Queens district attorney said.

Donnell Coleman, of Jamaica, was convicted of first-degree gang assault on March 14 after a two-week jury trial before Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter.

The judge sentenced the defendant on Friday to 18 years in prison.

“The defendant in this case showed no mercy to his victim when he led an attack on him, which resulted in his death,” Queens DA Richard Brown said. “The sentenced imposed is appropriate for such a vicious and senseless attack.”

On Nov. 27, 2010, the defendant and eight to 10 others punched and kicked Haroon Walfall, 33, of Rosedale, repeatedly about the face, head and torso following an altercation over a girl inside a club located at 1 Station Square, the DA said.

Walfall, who had an enlarged heart, sustained bruising, swelling, bleeding and lacerations to his face and neck. He subsequently died later that morning after the beating from a heart attack, Brown said.
