Portofino Burglarized, Police Seeking Suspect

Restaurant was broken into through front window at late hour.

The New York Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the man responsible for a burglary at Portofino’s Ristorante on Queens Boulevard.

Portofino, a popular destination for Italian food in the neighborhood, was struck after hours on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 a.m.

According to police, a man in his 20’s broke into the restaurant through a front window, stole several items from inside the restaurant, and then fled in an unknown direction.

In a scan of security footage released by police, the suspect is shown handling bottles of liquor behind the bar area at 3:10 a.m.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 20’s, between five-foot-five and five-foot-nine in height with a thin build.

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a light jacket and a knit cap.

The restaurant, located at the corner of Queens Boulevard and Ascan Avenue, has not lost business as a result of the incident, though an employee at the restaurant declined to comment.
