Police Search For Suspect In Elevator Mugging

Man cornered local teenager in elevator and stole cell phone.

Police in Forest Hills are seeking a suspect wanted in a robbery that occurred in the neighborhood on Thursday.

The suspect followed a 14-year-old girl into an elevator in a building near Queens Boulevard and Union Turnpike at 3:40 p.m. Thursday. Once inside the elevator, the suspect turned to the victim and demanded her phone, money and jewelry.

He began to grope at the girl, searching for valuables, according to police, and  took her cell phone before fleeing the elevator. 

The suspect is a man in his 30's, 6'3", 180 pounds, who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark colored backpack. 

The incident was the second in a week in which a suspect followed their victim into a building in the 112 Precinct, though police have not said whether the two incidents are related. 

Police released a sketch of the suspect, above.
