Police Make Arrest In Late Night Hit-And-Run

Rego Park man charged with vehicular assault

in the 112th Precinct made an arrest early Sunday morning in connection with a hit-and-run that occurred at the intersection of 108th Street and 63rd Road in Forest Hills.

The accident represents the second time in less than ten days that a pedestrian was hit crossing the street in dark conditions in the area. Earlier this month, a crossing Yellowstone Boulevard just a block away.

Avraham Mullokandov, 17, of Rego Park, was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an incident and driving with a restricted license.

The victim, identified Sunday afternoon as 31-year-old Dominik Winnick of Rego Park, was taken to New York Hospital Queens in Flushing where he was admitted in critical condition.

At around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, a man crossing the street at the intersection was struck by a 2010 Nissan Rogue travelling southbound on 108th Street, at the first block of one of the neighborhood's normally busy shopping areas.

Despite the incident,  Mullokandov allegedly did not remain at the scene, and fled in an unknown direction, according to police.

While injured in the intersection, Winnick was struck by a second car, a 1998 Nissan Maxima. The driver of the second car remained at the scene with the Winnick until police and emergency medical technicians arrived.

After an investigation, police located Mullokandov, who had returned home.

Police arrived at his home at 98th Street in Rego Park shortly before 12 a.m. The second driver at the scene was not charged in the incident.
