Off-Duty Cop Arrested for DWI, Hit-and-Run

First of two accidents this morning in the precinct, one fatal.

Police arrested one of their own at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday for DWI and a hit-and-run.

Police Officer Isaac Wesam, 27, was arrested in the 112 Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park, for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. 

No further details were released by police, including the location of the hit-and-run within the precinct.

It was the first of two accidents in a three-hour period in the precinct. At just after 4 a.m., a car struck the median on the Long Island Expressway just past the 108th Street exit. 

The front seat passenger, 27-year-old Carlos Rivas, was declared dead at New York Hospital Queens. Three back seat passengers were taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition. The driver, 39-year-old Ricardo Rivas, was taken into custody by police and charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
