NYPD: Driver Faces Homicide Charge in Brooklyn Crash That Killed 9-Year-Old

A Long Island man is charged with criminally negligent homicide following a crash in Brooklyn Sunday that claimed the life of a 9-year-old girl, the NYPD said Monday.

Kenneth Palache, 62, of Huntington, was fleeing the scene of another crash when his Honda Odyssey slammed into a 2013 Hyundai Elantra around 5 p.m., police said. Rebecca Ramnarine, who the New York Post reported had just left church, was a passenger in the Hyundai and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“They rushed her into the ambulance and they were still working on her and there was just so much blood,” Rebecca’s mother, Abiola Ramnarine, told 1010 WINS. “We went to the hospital and they called me into the room and told me my baby was dead.”

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Avenue N and Remsen Avenue.

Five other people–in both vehicles that Palache struck–suffered minor injuries, police said.

Palache, in addition to the criminally negligent homicide charge, is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
