Meng Pleads for Leniency for Dad: Report

Daily News reports that Meng wrote letter on father's behalf for upcoming sentencing.

The New York Daily News got ahold of a letter U.S. Rep. Grace Meng wrote on behalf of her father, who is facing jail time in a federal bribery scheme.

Meng's father, former Assemblyman Jimmy Meng, was arrested last year on charges that he tried to extort $80,000 from defendant in another federal case.

He was found guilty of wire fraud in November.

According to the paper, Meng wrote a letter saying she felt heart-broken after her father's arrest, and asked the presiding judget to show leniency.

The initial story broke as Meng was running for Congress in Forest Hills and Flushing, and threatened at times to torpedo her campaign against conservative candidate Dan Halloran, of northeast Queens.
