Man Falls Onto Tracks At LIRR Station

Police, Fire Department respond, stopping trains.

A 46-year-old man on the westbound platform at the fell onto the tracks late Sunday night, MTA police said.

The victim was not injured badly, according to police at the scene of the incident, which occurred just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

A spokesman for the FDNY, which also responded, said that the man, who was possibly intoxicated at the time of the incident, had to be removed from underneath a train. He was then taken to Jamaica Hospital.

Conductors in the area announced that the train would be out of service while police made sure there were no serious injuries and no problems with the train because of the unanticipated stop.

Commuters on the affected train were mostly diverted into the subways, while some stalwarts waited on the train.

The train was moving again as of 8:33 p.m. Sunday night.
