Man Arrested in Q53 Cleaning Agent Spill

Defendant charged after allegedly spilling drain cleaner on two children in Rego Park in incident police said was an accident.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly spilled a cleaning agent on a city bus in Rego Park, injuring two children, the Queens district attorney said.

Ivan Ivanov was charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly spilled drain cleaner on two children, ages 5 and 8 years, on a Q53 bus in Rego Park around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Ivanov had been carrying the cleaner in his backpack, which spilled out and onto the shin of one child and the rear end of another. Additionally, the chemical dripped onto the foot of a woman riding the bus, the DA said.

Police said that the spill was an accident. The children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor burns, Queens DA Richard Brown said.

The Queens district attorney’s office was not able to verify charges agains the defendant at this time.
