Hurricane Recovery: The Progress in Queens

More than 80,000 Queens residents still without power.

As of Friday afternoon, hurricane recovery progress has been slow but sure in Queens.

City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz toured the storm damage in Forest Hills and Kew Gardens on Thursday.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by the deadly storm and lost their homes and loved ones," Koslowitz said. “I will continue to be out in the district surveying the damage and stay in constant contact with City agencies as we move towards recovery from the devastation.”

For now, subways are still running on a limited basis, with power not yet restored in lower Manhattan. For more information on which subway lines are running, check out our story here.

In Queens, more than 84,000 people are still without power, according to Queens Borough President Helen Marshall. According to a story in today's New York Post, people in the outer boroughs could be out of power until Nov. 10.

ConEd will be distributing dry ice in Queens at Francis Lewis Boulevard and 42nd Avenue in Queens from the playground at P.S. 130.

The Parks Department has received nearly 5,000 requests for assistance with downed trees and nearly 1,000 requests for removal of hanging limbs. All requests have come through 311. 

If you'd like to donate canned goods, clothing, coats or other items to those in need, the NYPD has started a collection in the borough at Resorts World racino in Ozone Park.
