Former Mets Clubhouse Manager Gets Probation

Samuels, who pilfered $2.3 million in merchandise, will also have to pay restitution.

A former Mets clubhouse manager was sentenced to 5 years probation this week, the Queens District Attorney said. 

Charles Samuels, a Queens resident who was with the team for decades,

“The defendant betrayed the trust of his longtime employers, the New York Mets. He had a baseball fan’s dream job, but allowed greed to get in his way," District Attorney Richard Brown said. "He’s now lost his job and his reputation.”

In addition to probation, Samuels will have to pay restitution‚ totaling more than $70,000, to the New York State Department of Finance and the Mets. 

Samuels was also found guilty of underreporting tips and gifts that he received from players in the course of his duties as the clubhouse manager.
