Forest Hills Drug Smuggler Gets 30 Years

Enis Djurkovic also fined $2 million for massive smuggling operation.

The U.S. Attorney announced this week the sentencing of a drug dealer to 30 years in prison for running a Forest Hills smuggling ring that distributed thousands of pounds of marijuana and cocoaine.

Enis Djurkovic, 32, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and a $2 million fine for running the smuggling ring, which shipped over 100,000 kilograms of marijuana into the United States through the Akwesasne Native American reservation on the U.S.-Canadian border.

The drugs themselves, the U.S. Attorney said, originated with high-level traffickers in Canada.

According to U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch, Djurkovic ran his operation from 2000 to 2009, using ATV's, speed boats, tractor trailers and cars to smuggle drugs up and down the East Coast, with most of the drugs ending up in the tri-state area.

Djurkovic's network in the city was centered in Forest Hills, where he was eventually caught, thanks to a coordinated effort on the part of the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals and the Nassau County Police Department.

After his arrest, he was caught organizing death threats against a federal judge and two DEA agents involved in his capture, using his sister to deliver a threatening note to the agents.

After an investigation, Djurkovic was revealed as the ultimate source of the threats.
