Man Arrested In Alleged Attempted Child Abduction

Umberto Stanco, 79, of Glen Cove was arrested Tuesday night in connection with an attempted child abduction.

Stanco allegedly tried to lure a 15-year-old girl into his truck Monday late afternoon while she was walking along School Street.

Glen Cove police identified the man's truck in a local neighborhood, unspecified by police, using a city surveillance camera photo.

“The surveillance cameras in the downtown area played a major role in bringing a quick arrest to this case," said Lt. Det. John Nagle.

The downtown camera’s were installed through a Federal Grant at no cost to the city’s tax payers. The cameras went online last April and they feed directly into the Glen Cove Police Department.

Stanco was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second degree harassment.
