Crime Plummets In First Quarter, According To NYPD Figures

COMPSTAT release shows big drop in local crime numbers.

The first three months of 2011 have seen another downward-trend in crime in the 112 Precinct. in areas of the precinct, on the whole, criminal activity in the area has largely remained steady or dropped, according to the most recent COMPSTAT numbers from the NYPD.

In the short term, there has been an increase in the number of felony assaults reported in the area. Police have 6 registered assaults in the last 28 days, double the number recorded in the previous month. Over the first quarter of the year, however, there were three fewer assaults reported this year — 10 — than there were in the same three months of 2010.

There has also been a small bump in the number of grand larcenies, from 38 to 40 over the same period of time.

Compared to the first three months of 2010, however, crime in the 112 Precinct is down, significantly in some areas.

The biggest decrease so far over last year is in the number of auto thefts reported in the area. While the first quarter of 2010 saw 30 stolen cars reported, the first three months of 2011 have only seen 16.

At a recent precinct council meeting, Precinct Commander Christopher Tamola credited the many auto-theft abatement efforts the department had spearheaded with the reduction.

On the major crime front, there have been no recorded homicides in the precinct this year, just as last year. There has been a marked increase in the number of reported rapes in the 112, with four reported so far in the first quarter, compared with none on the books in the same period in 2010.
