Crime at a Glance: Robberies Jump in July

Jump in robberies over 2012 in local crime reports.

The local precinct in Forest Hills and Rego Park had a spot of bother to start the month, according to the most recent COMPSTAT reports.

Let's dig into the crime numbers here:

  • Robberies shot up in the first week of July — including the holiday weekend – with five during the week. There were just two during the same period last year.
  • For the year, robberies are still on a downward trend, though there were more in the last month in 2013 than 2012.
  • Burglaries were also a problem — as they have been for much of the year. There were four in the first week of July compared to three during the same period in 2012.
  • The six posted grand larcenies actually represented a dip compared to last year, when there were a whopping 10.
  • Two auto thefts were reported as well as one felony assault. In total there were 18 major crimes reported.
  • Among minor crimes, there was actually a dip across all categories, including petit larceny and misdemeanor assault.
