Crime at a Glance: Burglaries Slow After Arrest

Though crime has been a tough nut to crack in Forest Hills lately.

Let's take a look at the local crime numbers in Forest Hills to close out April, the end of a long, difficult stretch for police in Forest Hills and Rego Park.

The numbers have taken a turn for the better — dig in below:

  • There were fewer robberies in the precinct than last year, by one, though for the month they're still up more than 37 percent.
  • Burglaries are up a whopping 350 percent over the same month last year — though that's a well-known issue by now. In the most recent week, there were two total, just one more than the same period last year.
  • There was one incident of felony assault, which drove the numbers down from last year, when the same week had three. Over the last month, there have been just three, down from seven last year.
  • There were no incidents of auto theft reported in the precinct during the last full week in April, compared to two last year. The numbers are down for the month, as well.
  • There were seven reported grand larceny incidents — lower than last year's nine — but for the month the numbers still went up by around five percent.
