Crime at a Glance: More Larceny

Rough week for those chasing pickpockets.

Grand larceny and a pair of reported rapes marred an otherwise good COMPSTAT report for the local precinct covering Forest Hills and Rego Park recently.

Have a look at the crime numbers in brief here:

  • Most jarring were the two reported rapes in the 112 Precinct in the most recent reported week. That doubles the total number reported through the rest of the year so far combined.
  • There were just four reported rape incidents in Forest Hills and Rego Park through the same period last year.
  • The other bad category this week was grand larceny. There were nine between June 17 and June 23, compared to just five during the same period last year.
  • That total dragged the annual percentage very close to 2012 numbers, after a strong period of making progress on what is typically the biggest problem crime in the area.
  • Good news: There were no felony assaults and no auto thefts reported in the area during the week, and just one robbery was reported, adding to what's so far been a good year for those categories.
  • There was one burglary as well, down from the same period last year, contributing to a downward monthly trend. For the year, however, things are still looking pretty ugly.
