Crime at a Glance: Great Week For Precinct

112 Precinct rounds out May with very low crime numbers.

After a tough May, the 112 Precinct had a good week leading into the usually crime-heavy summer months.

Here are some key notes from the most recent COMPSTAT released by your local police.

  • Total major crime had a 54 percent drop over the same week last year, based on the most recent numbers. Only 11 total crimes were committed in major categories, down from 24 in 2011.
  • While there was a slight decline in crime between May 2012 and May 2011, crime year-to-date is still up in the precinct by nearly four-and-a-half percent.
  • Between May 28 and June 3, grand larcenies dropped more than 55 percent compared to last year, though it is still the category with the most total crimes in the area.
  • Petit larceny, which is not considered a major crime, also showed a steep weekly compared to last year, with just 16 incidents committed compared to 26 during the same period in 2011.
