The calendar has rolled over for crime statistics in 2012, and last year is going to be a tough one to beat, in terms of bare numbers.
With much of the city now is the time to pay close attention to what's happening in local crime.
Let's dig into the crime statistics in Rego Park and Forest Hills:
- The first week of 2013 was virtually identical to 2012 in nearly every major category.
- The only category that had a sharp increase over last year was the number of misdemeanor assaults in the precinct, with nine occuring this year compared to just three in 2012.
- The precinct has held on to its more than a year-long streak without any homicides in the precinct into 2013.
- There was one more grand larceny in the most recent week than there was during the same period last year. Larcenies are still the areas of greatest focus for police in the 112 Precinct.
