Crime at a Glance: Burglaries Climb

Take a look at this week's crime statistics.

Let's dive a little further into the crime numbers in Forest Hills this week, with the help of the most recent 112 Precinct COMPSTAT release.

The most recent numbers for the last week showed a slight bump over the same period last year, with two more crimes committed in 2012 than in 2011.

But in the long game, things are looking up for the precinct, with the month of June through the 24th showing a more than 20 percent drop in reported major crimes.

  • The biggest increase for the month was in burglaries. There were 16 for the month in 2012 compared to just 10 in 2011.
  • There was also a big increase in the number of cars reported stolen in Forest Hills and Rego Park, with 11 this year compared to just six in the previous year.
  • Grand larceny, which has been a thorn in the side of the 112 Precinct for well over a year, dropped by nearly 42 percent.

The biggest crime story of the summer continues to be the precinct's hunt for two men wanted in connection with a pattern of sexual assaults centered in and around Forest Hills.
