Crime at a Glance: Another Percentage Increase

With mid-year looming, 2013 shaping up as tough year for precinct.

Another COMPSTAT report, another week of trouble for the 112 Precinct, which covers Forest Hills and Rego Park.

After years of consecutive lows, the precinct is fighting to keep on a downward trend year-over-year, and currently is just barely making it, as is.

Dig into the crime numbers below:

  • There were four more burglaries in the most recent week than there were during the same period during 2012. Year to date, that pushes the total to a whopping 70 percent higher than last year's total.
  • Grand larceny, always a thorn in the side of the 112 Precinct, also went up over last year, but for the month and the year it's actually down slightly.
  • The precinct still has a more than year-long stretch with no homicides, suggesting that while burglaries are becoming a problem, mortal danger is still nowhere to be found in Forest Hills.
  • Felony assaults actually went up in the most recent week and month — but are still trending downward for the year.
  • Minor crimes, including petit larceny, went down in the most recent week, but for the year many are actually up over 2012.
