'Cop Of The Month' Broke Up Mugging, Helped Apprehend Suspect

Isabelle Hillaire, visiting French police officer, helps NYPD make collar.

Typically, the 112 Precinct's "Cop of the Month" award belongs to an officer who is currently serving the community in uniform. But this past week, local police made an exception to honor Isabelle Hillaire, a former French police officer visiting the United States with her husband, Jean Christopher Hillaire.

Jean Christopher is currently serving in an officer exchange program, and wife Isabelle retired from the French police service to come with him. Last month, she proved that you can take the cop out of the service, but you can't take the service out of the cop.

Isabelle Hillaire witnessed an attempted mugging in Forest Hills last month and not only called the police, but trailed the suspect  — even after being threatened — to help the police bring her to justice.
