Brooklyn Man Gets 32 Years In Forest Park Rape

Conviction was helped by DNA data bank evidence, District Attorney says.

was sentenced to more than 28 years in prison on Thursday, District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Carl Wallace attacked a woman at Park Lane South and 91st Street in September of 2009. He forced his victim into the cover of a group of trees in the park and sexually assaulted her, all while threatening to stab her if she made a sound.

Wallace was caught because his victim went to the hospital after the incident, where a rape kit was prepared.

Police matched DNA collected in the kit to a sample that Wallace gave after a 2003 conviction for attempted burglary.

Brown said that the DNA sample Wallace was compelled to give in 2003 was a crucial tool in his capture in the rape.

“This defendant is a violent predator who poses a serious threat to public safety, and, as such, the sentence imposed by the Court is more than warranted,” said Brown. “The fact that the defendant in this case was required to submit a sample to the DNA data bank following a 2003 attempted burglary conviction and thus was swiftly identified as the perpetrator in this case once again underscores its effectiveness as a tool of law enforcement.”

Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Butcher sentenced Wallace to 28-and-a-half to 32 years in prison on Thursday.
