After Tough Year, 112 Precinct Crime Sees Early Drop

112 Precinct has best week ever between Jan. 8 and Jan. 15.

this week’s COMPSTAT release shows a precipitous drop in crime for the past seven days in the neighborhood, with just six total major crimes committed between Jan. 8 and Jan. 15.

The number, Tamola told residents, is the lowest total since COMPSTAT statistics have been recorded in the area.

In addition to the decrease from the previous week, the comparison to the same week in 2011 also showed a big improvement, with five less robberies and five less grand larcenies in the precinct.

One car was stolen during the period, and one burglary was committed, in addition to four grand larcenies — which can include purse snatchings or credit card and identity thefts — to make up the total of six.

There were still 18 incidents of petit larceny and two misdemeanor assaults, but these numbers are not included in the “major crimes” total, as the NYPD tracks them.

After a 14 percent increase in crime in the area in 2011, the precinct is off to a good start so far this year, with grand larcenies down thirty percent and robberies still at zero, compared to five last year.

Even burglaries, which have been a concern to officers over the last month, have dropped since the start of 2012, with four less committed this year than in the same period of 2011.
