112 Precinct 'Cops Of The Month' Arrest Mugger In Forest Hills

Arrest out of a movie, says commanding officer.

At the 112 Precinct Community Council meeting Wednesday night, Commanding Officer Christopher Tamola honored two officers with the precinct’s “Cop of the Month” award.

Officers John Feng and Kieran Tierney were on patrol in the 112 Precinct in mid-September when a call came over the radio that a man in the neighboring 110 Precinct had been mugged at gunpoint for his cell phone.

Tierney and Feng saw a man who matched the description of the mugger running through a local park, and apprehended him.

Further, the two officers managed to relieve the mugger of a fully-loaded handgun that had been used in the mugging.

The muggers prints matched not only the incident from that night, but also a robbery that had occurred just the night before.

“It was almost — a little bit — like in a movie,” Tamola said. “They secured the crime scene, they held it down … He’s basically a 19-year-old kid who’s been walking around with a gun committing robberies.”

For making such a high-profile collar, Feng and Tierney were given the Precinct’s cop of the month honor.

In addition to handing out awards, Wednesday night’s meeting also served as a notice for an upcoming graffiti clean-up event that will take place Saturday, Oct. 22 in Forest Hills and Rego Park. It will begin at 9 a.m. at

Residents interested in touring the Sept. 11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan with the Precinct Community Council — which will take place in lieu of a meeting — should talk to the precinct's community affairs officers this month. For more information e-mail Heidi Chain at heidichain@yahoo.com.
