Central Queens Y Unveils Summer Programs Schedule

The Y's summer programs include swimming, trips to a Mets game and Aqueduct and dance classes for kids.

The Central Queens Y has released its extensive list of summer programs that it will offer to children of all ages and adults for the next three months.   

Take a look at the list below of programs, which include everything from a trip to a Mets game to swimming classes, that will be held at the Y.

Summer Programs   

Swimming and gym membership begins on June 9. Families will pay $425 for 12 weeks or $325 for eight weeks, while adults, ages 25 years and over, will pay $250 for 12 weeks or $200 for eight weeks.   

The cost for young adults, ages 19 to 24 years, is $180 for 12 weeks or $145 for eight weeks. And teens, ages 13 to 18 years, will pay $229 for the full year. Registration can be completed at the Y’s main desk.   

Nearly Camp, which is aimed at children between the ages of 24 and 48 months, kicks off on June 24. The class includes crafts, story time, music and a snack. Sessions begin on June 24. The cost is $630 for members and $735 for non-members.   

Smorgasbord of Fun, which is aimed at children between the ages of 20 to 36 months, includes stories, music, crafts and simple cooking sessions. The class, which begins on June 26, costs $160 for members and $184 for non-members.  

Little Dancers, which is for children between the ages of 20 and 36 months, enhances kids’ coordination through music and dance. The class, which begins on June 26, is $144 for members and $176 for non-members.   

Summer Dance, which begins on June 26, has two sessions – one for children between the ages of 3 and 6 years and another for kids, ages 6 to 10 years. It costs $104 for members and $128 for non-members.   

Toe Tappin’ Toddlers, which is aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 36 months, will begin June 28. The course is $144 for members and $176 for non-members. This class, which is taught by music specialist Elana Dietz-Weinstein, includes singing and playing instruments, such as shakers, bells and tambourines. The program is meant to enhance listening and gross motor skills as well as rhythm, memory and social skills.   

Boys Jr. NBA Basketball Skills, which is for youths between the ages of 9 and 14 years, kicks off on July 2. The six-week program costs $128 for members and $150 for non-members.   

Capoeira, which begins on June 30, has two sessions – ages 5 to 10 years and 11 years and older. It costs $112 for members and $144 for non-members.   

Tween Zumba Fitness, which begins on June 30, is aimed at ages 11 to 14 years. Members pay $45, while the cost for non-members is $70.   

The Y’s Pioneer Day Camp, which is for kindergarten through fifth grade, has two sessions: June 28 to July 24 or July 25 to Aug. 17. Campers spend the day at a 375-acre campground on Long Island, which has a swimming pool, woodlands, athletic facilities and nature trails.   

Teen Travel Camp, which is for sixth through 10th graders, will include outings to Great Adventure, New Rock City, Mountain Creek, roller skating, Fire Island and other local sites.   

Summer classes for adults include personal training, yoga in motion, balanced body Pilates, cardio combo, ballet fitness fusion, Zumba and Tai Chi.   

Programs for seniors include aquadynamics, Israeli and international dance, Zumba, chair yoga and exercise with light weights.   

Swim Week, an intensive four-day program with instructors and the American Red Cross, will be held from June 24 to 27 and Aug. 19 to 22. The program is aimed at children, ages 3 to 12 years. The cost is $65 for members and $85 for non-members.   

Swimming classes include Little Fishes (ages 2-3 years, begins June 30 or July 3), Pamper Paddlers (7-23 months, begins June 30 or July 1), Fantastic Fishes (3-4 years, begins June 30) and Junior Fishes (3-5 years without parent, begins June 30 or July 1).   

Water exercise classes for adults begins July 1 and 5, while stroke readiness, stroke development, primary skills and stroke refinement swimming classes begin on June 30.   

The Y will also offer drama workshops for adults on July 18 and Aug. 15. The cost is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.   

Senior sing-a-long will take place on July 17. It’s free for members and $3 for non-members.   

The Y will also host trips to a Mets game and Aqueduct and hold a singles social for ages 55 years and older on July 17. The singles event is free for members and $5 for non-members.
