July is the New August

JULY IS THE NEW AUGUST

I have decided that August is no longer the hottest month of the year anymore. July has now become August. August has become September. This does create a wrinkle in a few things.

When I was a child there was something very magical about August. The days were long, hot, and lazy. August forced you to slow down.  I would sit around and eat watermelon, peaches, and soft ice cream. Soft ice cream, known as custard, was something they had before tasteless frozen yogurt. OK, I do like the frozen yogurt, but the other day I had a Carvel swirl with chocolate sprinkles, and it was nirvana. I guess it's the "fat" in it that made it so different and took my taste buds back to a simpler time.

In August folks were allowed to be slow, take their time, and contemplate what they wanted to do in the autumn. Because it feels like fall now, I kind of lost that month of self examination. What happened to August?
Why am I wearing a sweater early in the morning? This also creates a fashion problem for me. Some of my summer clothes are now too summerier.

Yes, I know there are bigger problems in the world than my lamenting about losing  August, but it is more than that. It means that indeed our weather patterns are changing and Mother Nature is confused and maybe even a bit angry. Well, for the time being, try to give yourself a couple of days off to chill. Create your own days of August for yourself.
And do get a custard ice cream.
