HOT

OK, it is beyond hot. Yesterday I was on the subway platform and I thought my eyeballs were melting. Really. Today the high is 97 with a heat index of 110 degrees. Is the heat index like the wind chill? There is nothing pretty about the expressions on people's faces. Everyone seems to be suffering and sweating. Tempers are short and babies are crying. Dogs are salivating and so are people.

I remember having "hot spells" but this seems really hot. Maybe I am just spoiled because of the long spring we had or maybe my tolerance has gone down. That would be a disappointment to this beach baby. But I guess time catches up with all of us.

So what can make today a little more tolerable? Here are some tips I wanted to share.

1. Drink lots of water. More than usual. Don't worry about having to pee every five minutes-you'll be so dehydrated your kidneys will hold on to the fluid.

2. Put on deodorant. If you don't use it, please start today.

3. Stay indoors.

4. Stay indoors and stand naked in front of the AC.

5. If you don't have AC, go somewhere public where they do, but DO NOT stand naked here.

6. Get a parasol. It is prettier than an umbrella.

7. Put on sunscreen. Like a 15 or 30 SPF is enough. Do you think a SPF of 187 is better? No.

8. Don't cook. Order in, or even better, just eat ice cream all day.

9. Keep an eye out for elderly neighbors and if you are a store owner put a bowl of water out for our canine friends. Although, I might drink from those bowls today.

10. Keep your cool. Watch your temper. Have compassion. Let things go today. It's really not worth it.
