What's Open and Closed on Thanksgiving

Libraries, schools closed while subways and buses still run.

Most city services and community centers will be shut down today for Thanksgiving. Patch has put together a list of what's closed for the holiday, so you won't rush out only to find a pair of locked doors.

1. All banks, post offices, government offices, libraries and the Central Queens Y will be closed for the day.

2. Schools are closed both today and on Friday. They will reopen on Monday.

3. The Queens Center Mall is closed for Thanksgiving, but will reopen at midnight for Black Friday and will stay open until 11 p.m. that day. For other stores on Austin Street, call to find out whether they will remain open.

4. The Long Island Rail Rod will offer extra service with off-peak fares throughout the weekend. There will be extra afternoon trains to get borough residents to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as additional trains following the parade. Additional trains will also be available on Black Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit the LIRR's website. And check out the MTA's website for subway information.
