Weiner Aiding Rockaway Recovery: Report

Former Congressman still lending a hand in the Rockaways, according to City and State.

For many, especially those in the Rockaways, Superstorm Sandy recovery still hasn't ended. It's no surprise, then, that there are still New Yorkers lending a helping hand.

What may be surprising is whose hands are doing the helping.

According to City and State, former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner has been almost omnipresent in the Rockaways in the days since Sandy struck last year.

A report published Tuesday by the outlet said Weiner called U.S. Rep. Greg Meeks, whose district now includes the Rockaways, to let him know he'd be doing outreach in the area, and has been there ever since.

The report added that Weiner, because of his decades of government experience, has been helping homeowners jump through the bureucratic hoops of securing financial aid and more.

Weiner first tried to draw attention to the devastation in the area back in November, when he tweeted a video about Sandy recovery in the aftermath of the storm.

Weiner spoke to City and State, one of only a few interviews since his resignation, saying the Rockaways still face a number of challenges and a lot of need.
