Snowstorm Hits City Earlier, Harder Than Expected

Weather Service calling for as much as eight inches in some areas.

Yet another snowstorm has snuck up on the city, with the weather service calling for snow accumulation of eight inches or higher in Forest Hills by the end of the night Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the New York City area until 6 a.m. Thursday.

The current forecast calls for 4-8 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 30 MPH. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has declared a weather emergency for the city, asking residents to stay off the roads and to use caution if they're forced to travel. 

The NYC Department of Sanitation has suspended alternate side of the street parking rules until further notice for snow removal. Garbage pick-up has also been suspended.

The MTA has not announced any service changes due to the storm, though some local residents have already complained of buses in some areas being delayed up to 20 minutes.
