Quinn Thinks Mayor Should Take Over MTA: Report

Would the MTA work better under mayoral control?

New York City Democratic mayoral candidate and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn released a $756 million wish list for a number of mass-transit projects on Thursday and proposed the next mayor steer the now state-controlled Metropolitan Transportation Authority, The Post writes.

It’s an old idea that has never gained traction, because it requires asking Albany to surrender total control, wrote the paper.

Aside from the mayor appointing the president of New York City Transit and the majority of MTA board members, Quinn also called for 10 new Bus Rapid Transit routes throughout the city and expanded ferry service to Red Hook in Brooklyn, Astoria in Queens, Roosevelt Island, and Ferry Point Park in The Bronx.
