According to a report on the New York Times’ City Room Blog, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
The pregnancy came to light after intense scrutiny on the couple’s home life,
Weiner’s transgressions were exposed when he mistakenly tweeted a lewd photo of himself to a woman in Washington state.
The media blitz that has surrounded the story has led the congressman to closely guard his privacy, and that of his wife.
At Monday's press conference, a tearful Weiner said that he had spoken to his wife, and that the two had no plans to split.
"My wife is a remarkable woman," he said. "She's not responsible for any of this. This was visited upon her. She's getting back to work, and I apologize to her."
"I love my wife very much, and we have no intention of splitting up over this," he added. "We've been through a great deal together, I love her very much, and she loves me."
According to the report in the New York Times, Abedin left on Wednesday for a trip to Northern Africa with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.
The couple resides in Forest Hills Gardens.
