Isabella and Jayden Still Most Popular Baby Names in NYC

Are you noticing classrooms and playgrounds overrun with Isabellas and Jaydens? Well, that’s because for the third year in a row, the two names have been the most popular for newborns in New York City.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Wednesday that there were about 600 Isabellas and 800 Jaydens born in the city in 2011. He added that 123,029 babies were born in the city in 2011, down 1.4 percent from 2010.

The Mayor made the announcement at City Hall, where he was joined by babies Isabella Pal and Jayden Alexander Marthone – and their parents – who were both born at Health and Hospital’s Coney Island Hospital.

The two names could possibly be inspired by celebrity sources – Isabella (or simply Bella) is the protagonist in the Twilight series, while Jayden is the name of Britney Spears’ son. 

Sophia and Jacob (another Twilight character name) were the second biggest names of the year, followed by Olivia and Ethan. The top ten can be found here.

What top names will be next? Will Katniss, the name of the hero of The Hunger Games series take the top spot, or possibly Blue, the newborn daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z?
