Q Bistro Returns, Minus The Thai

Vesna Denic and new co-owner Alan Schivek replace the Thai food in Q Bistro with a new Manhattan flavor.

a revamped Q Bistro is now open to the public. Instead of the Thai flavors that many Forest Hills customers loved, Q Bistro has  remodeled their menu to a broader American flavor.

Vesna Denic and new co-owner Alan Schivek have merged their ideas to create a new Manhattan-style restaurant to reflect the tastes of Forest Hills residents. “The food is completely different. Bistro food is essentially bistro/Manhattan style food in Forest Hills," said Schivek. "We’re mixing in world cuisine. We incorporated different dishes from different parts of the world. It can be anything from France, Italy, or Spain.”

Customers can also expect to see constant changes at the restaurant. Menus will now be seasonal with a completely separate Sunday brunch menu. Heavier dishes, like soups and stews during the winter and lighter dishes during the summer. Schivek said, “What you see today will probably change, late summer into fall.”

New sous-chef Allan Feldman added, “Thai food wasn’t trendy anymore. [The owners] wanted something fresh in the neighborhood, so we brought the Manhattan-style food to the neighborhood, with everything fresh and made daily.”

One of the biggest changes the staff at Q Bistro has undertaken is in the quality of their food. By incorporating fresh produce and ingredients, they provide their customers with an unrivaled flavor in every dish. Instead of buying food once a week, Q Bistro is now using Fresh Direct as a means of keeping the freshness in their food.

“Quality is a really important thing here. We have the ability — as any restaurant does — to buy food daily. It’s a little more time consuming to maintain the freshness and quality of the food, but the only way you can achieve that is by buying more frequently” said Schivek.

Another addition to the new Q Bistro is the wine bar. With a wider selection of wine and beer, customers will be able to sample wines from all around the world without spending too much. “So far we’ve introduced people to wines they’ve never tasted before, like a Chardonnay Viognier. Obviously we have the typical wines like Pinot Grigio, Merlot, We’re looking to introduce people to really good wines that aren’t going to cost them a lot.”

Though many customers were sad to see the popular Thai restaurant go, the new improvements seem to be well received by Forest Hills residents. “So far the reaction has been unbelievable. We’ve already had people who’ve eaten here every night; we’ve had a couple of people who’ve been back twice.” Schivek beamed.
