Mexican Restaurant to Replace Garcia's on Austin Street

Jackson Heights' El Coyote will open a new chain eatery in Forest Hills.

A Jackson Heights- based Mexican restaurant known as El Coyote is planning to open a new chain eatery at the former Garcia's Mexican Cafe site on Austin Street.

Garcia's closed its doors in October following a 25-year run on the Forest Hills commercial strip.

An employee for El Coyote, which is based on Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights, said that the restaurant is currently in the process of constructing a new eatery at the former Garcia's locale on the second floor of the shopping center at 70-09 Austin St.

An exact opening date has not yet been scheduled, but the employee said the restaurant could likely debut in March.

In the meantime, there are several options for Mexican cuisine on Austin Street, including Chipotle and 5 Burro Cafe.
