Holiday Shopping And Safety Tips

112th Precinct Council President Heidi Chain has some tips to keep your cash safe and sound this season.

The holiday shopping season has started to get into full swing — with decorations stretching across shopping thoroughfares and local shops sporting wintry decorations.

It's easy to get distracted at this time of year. With these helpful tips from Council President Heidi Chain, you can make sure your holidays are happy and healthy, and at least avoid the stress of having your holiday money, or worse, your identity stolen this year:

  • Do not walk around with an open bag
  • Watch your possessions while shopping
  • Do not keep your cash, credit cards and keys in your pocketbook
  • Do not take all of your credit cards with you when shopping
  • Do not put your pocketbook in a shopping cart
  • Do not put you pocketbook down when shopping
  • If you have a baby carriage, do not put your bag on the handle
  • When eating out, do not put your bag on the back of a chair in a restaurant
  • When in the bathroom, do not put your bag on the door or on the floor

And don't forget to stop by the meeting at the 112th Precinct tonight to learn more about how to stay safe in your community.
