Glorious Return for Gloria Pizza: Report

Former Flushing pizza joint will reopen in Forest Hills.

The loved and lost Gloria Pizza, formerly of Flushing, is coming back for a return engagement, this time in Forest Hills, the New York Daily News reports.

According to the paper, Gloria Pizza, which closed the doors of its Flushing location in 1994, is reopening next to the on Queens Boulevard sometime in the next month.

In an interview with the pizzeria’s owner, the paper revealed that while most of the storied restaurant’s original staff are long retired, the same great taste will be tempting Queens residents once again.

So while Forest Hills already had some great pizza shops, it looks like , and are going to have some competition.

Currently, the site of the restaurant is undergoing renovation. The pizza shop that had served movie patrons previously closed in 2010.

Is the former Gloria Pizza (Flushing) the pizzeria on Main St not far from the LIRR overpass, close to the Q44 etc etc bus? if it is, that's a real throwback to the days when kids coming from school would jam the place. The thing I remember most is the pizza was loaded with cheese and dripping with oil...which was GREAT! It'll be interesting to see if the new location will replicate that "old skool" style in our new health-conscious era. I'll be one of the first to try it.

Gloria's Pizza was the best pizza I ever had and I hope the new place will use the same recipe. If so, it will do well and serve a whole new generation of devoteess. Interestingly, there was a small place on Jamaica Ave. near Parson Blvd. years ago that served the identical pizza.

It looks like a good spot for a pizza place and I liked the one that was there before. But, if the last one failed at that location, why is this one going to be any different? Walk a block and go at A & J's. The whole neighborhood is pharmacies, donut shops, banks, and pizza places...
