'Flying Pig' Gastropub Coming to Austin St.

New restaurant/bar will move in to site of former Johnny Rockets.

Austin Street is getting a slew of new restaurants, it would seem.

The long awaited Chipotle — the first in Queens — opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday. Before too long, Austin Street diners will have a chance to sample some Irish gastropub cuisine just two doors down.

Where once was a Johnny Rockets, a new restaurant is rising, slowly but surely.

"Gastropub" for the uninitiated, is a word that originated in English slang. It refers to a restaurant with a pub atmostphere, which also places a focus on fine dining, as well.

According to a scanner on the door to the construction site, the new restaurant will be known as "The Flying Pig."

No word yet on when The Flying Pig will open its doors, though for the moment the inside of the old Johnny Rockets is still being gutted.
