Austin Street's Stoa Jewelry Shuts Its Doors

An Austin Street-based jewelry store has closed its doors after more than four decades on the commercial strip.

Stoa Jewelry, located at 71-60 Austin St., recently went out of business, but it was unclear why the shop's owners decided to close.

A note in the store's window read, "After 45 years, we've sadly decided to conclude our operation Stoa. That which began as a business venture evolved into a large, beautiful communal family. For that, we are grateful."

Patch wants to know: Did you shop at Stoa? Tell us about your experience.

What a shame! A true original! One if the longest operating stores on Austin Street. Those ladies had a great talent showing their customers what looks good on them. The owners were lovely women that had one of the most unique collections of jewelry in Queens. I wish them the best! Austin Street will be in decline without our mom and pop stores. Our neighborhood folks need to shop on Austin street and support the small businesses or this will continue to happen.

It is a shame, and Austin Street is really in transition...Even the larger stores, like Laytners and Ann Taylor are going out of business.
