Austin Street's Garcia's Mexican Cafe Closes

Long-time restaurant in Forest Hills shuts its doors.

Garcia's Mexican Cafe closed its doors this week after a 25-year run on Austin Street in Forest Hills.

The eatery, located on the second floor of the shopping center at 70-09 Austin St., served traditional Mexican cuisine, but also pizza, burgers and cocktails.

Garcia's owners could not be reached for comment, but a statement on its website read, "After 25 years of operation, Garcia's has decided to close its doors. Thank you to all of our wonderful customers over the years. We will miss you."

It was unclear whether a replacement for the site had yet been chosen.

Austin Street shoppers in search of Mexican food still have several options, including chain Chipotle and 5 Burro Cafe.
