Forest Hills' Ann Taylor store will close early in the new year, an employee at the shop said.

Ann Taylor, located at 71-09 Austin St., will permanently shut its doors on Jan. 4. An employee at the women's clothing store said that workers were not told why the store was closing.

The shop is not currently offering any going-out-of-business sales.

Some nearby Ann Taylor stores are located at Queens Center Mall and the Bay Terrace Shopping Center.

Patch wants to know: Are you sad to see Ann Taylor leave Austin Street? What would you like to see replace it? Tell us in the comment section.

You say Ann Taylor, but show a picture of Ann Taylor Loft. There are both on Austin Street. Which one is closing? Ann Taylor is on the other side of 71st Avenue

Ann Taylor is closing, not Loft. Sorry about the confusion.

I prefer the loft but surprised Ann Taylor is closing. It seems geared to an older clientele. Lots of places closing. Kind of sad. Hope new places come soon. Could use a good soup/salad/sandwich shop.

I do not like that they did not keep their employees informed. I hope that they are taken care of by the company when they are laid off. I am sad to see the workers go, not the store.

I used to have an apartment above the Ann Taylor store and the building owner at the time had sold the building, so the new owner might have wanted a higher rent for the space. It's about 10 years, so AT's first lease might be up for renewal/renegotiation. Unfortunately, that's what happens in commercial real estate. I am sure most of the employees will be reassigned to other AT stores. That's usually what happens in these cases.
