January and February tend to be quieter months at cineplexes from coast to coast. The cold temperatures keep people away from the theaters, summer's blockbusters are five months away and all of the Oscar-bait is already firmly entrenched in Academy voters' minds.

The Devil Inside: This horror film chronicles a young woman's attempt to cure her mother of the insanity — or possession — that caused her to murder three people twenty years ago. Rated R.
The Darkest Hour: This one actually opened on Christmas, but like I said, it's slow in January. Darkest Hour is a sci-fi thriller about a group of survivors after an alien attack in Moscow. The catch? The victims never see their enemy coming. Rated PG-13.
