Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce to Host Two Jazz Thursday Concerts in August

L.A. Blacksmith and Cheryl Pepsi Riley will play on 70th Avenue next month.

Two concerts will be held on 70th Avenue next month as part of the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce’s annual Jazz Thursdays.

The concert series, now in its eighth season, will include performances at 70th Avenue between Austin Street and Queens Boulevard.

On Aug. 15, L.A. Blacksmith and Jazz Plus will play at 7 p.m. The concert will also feature Stacia Hobdy, who recently released her gospel album debut, “Keep it Movin.’”

On Aug. 22, Cheryl Pepsi Riley will perform at 7 p.m. The singer had a top 40 hit with her 1988 song, “Thanks for My Child.”

Riley has also provided backup vocals for Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez and Angie Stone.

Both concerts are free and seating is available.

This season’s shows will benefit jazz great Nate Fitzgerald, a world renowned saxophonist and composer.

The shows were planned by the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce’s Leslie Brown and sponsored by a variety of local organizations, such as the Queens Council on the Arts, North Shore LIJ Forest Hills Hospital, Queens County Savings Bank, Forest Hills’ 5 Burro Café and Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, D-Forest Hills.
